Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located near the transmission's edge just above the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU through the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and audi keys replacement cost Key Shell (Yogicentral.Science) where the camshaft lies so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jump in the chain link of the upper chain of timing. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult as there are two different connector pins and they have different functions however the best method to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read around 1000 ohms if the sensor is at full operation. If you're experiencing issues with this part, check for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, i experienced massive power loss as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors are not firing anymore. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs. Three were drenched with gazoline the 4th one was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole and when I turn the engine on without sparks, the three with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one remains closed. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 i get zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue persists at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows an ice temperature of -49c. Also i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do, as i believe that i've ruled out everything else. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. Let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find a spare in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is easy to test them - just put your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing upwards). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that must know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make decisions about timing of the fuel injectors, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you have a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could cause an engine shutdown.

A damaged G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox, a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire in gear. It is probable that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. The good news is they are very cheap and easily accessible particularly when you're looking at a Bosch model, which is what we have. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a variety of issues in your car. It is an important part of the transmission of your audi replacement key service because it relays information to the ECU regarding how fast or slow the engine of the car is spinning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components of the car to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU then uses and processes this signal to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost, and also transmitting it to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see approximately 1000 ohms of resistance between these two points. This is the same across the Audi remote key 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 Du You may also find good ones in wrecking yards.
